Dr. Navdeep Agrawal is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geoinformatics at Netaji Subhas University of Technology (NSUT), New Delhi. His research lies at the intersection of geospatial science, hazards and disaster risk reduction, and environmental exposure, with a broader interest in understanding the spatial dimensions of hazards, vulnerability, exposure, and risk.

He received his B.Tech. in Civil Engineering from Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow (2014) and M.E. in Civil Engineering, with specialization in Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering, from Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra (2017). He completed his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Shiv Nadar University (2023), where his doctoral research focused on natural hazards and disaster risk reduction, encompassing landslide susceptibility, seismic hazard, social vulnerability, and risk assessment using geospatial approaches.

He subsequently served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) from June 2023 to March 2025, where he broadened his geospatial research towards environmental monitoring and exposure assessment, integrating dense sensor networks, Earth observation, spatial datasets, and machine-learning approaches.

Research Interests

  • Hazards & Disaster Risk Reduction
  • Environmental Exposure, Climate & Urban Risk
  • GeoAI & Spatial Modelling

His research has been published in international journals including Nature Communications, Environmental Science & Technology, Earth Surface Processes and Landforms, and Bulletin of Engineering Geology and the Environment. Through his research and teaching, he seeks to develop interdisciplinary geospatial approaches that connect physical processes, spatial information, and societal vulnerability to address contemporary environmental and disaster-risk challenges.

Prospective Ph.D. Students

Looking for motivated Ph.D. scholars interested in working across the above research themes. Prospective candidates with backgrounds in Geoinformatics, Remote Sensing & GIS, Civil Engineering, Earth/Environmental Sciences, or related disciplines, and an interest in geospatial analytics, Earth observation, and computational approaches are encouraged to get in touch.
